9-11 in the Academic Community
An excellent Documentary directed by Adnan Zuberi and accredited as winner of the Film Festival of Toronto University has recently been released. It has been eagerly awaited for its promise to serve an urgent need in the gathering momentum of the 9/11 Truth Movement and has lived up to all expectations. It deals with the treatment of 9/11 in the Academic Community.

In 1632 Galileo Galilei was summoned before the Rome Inquisition to answer for his publication in support of Copernicus' Heliocentric theory of planetary motion. He was confined to house arrest for the rest of his life and his books were banned.

I have long argued that The 9-11 Truth Movement has won, due principally to two inescapable facts: free-fall collapse of the WTC buildings and the ubiquitous presence of nano-thermite and nano-thermite combustion products in the rubble.
The basic facts are available and a plethora of reinforcing evidence has been obtained and analysed; it's only a matter of time before those facts and the evidence become widely absorbed and accepted, as inevitably they must. The planets, the earth among them, can be shown to revolve about the sun, with or without the approval of FOX News and CNN.
So the struggle for 9/11 Truth parallels the struggle for scientific truth about the movement of the planets and the forces that govern them. The pace of events however is much more rapid.
The recent documentary by Adnan Zuberi, '9/11 In The Academic Community' is an important work that will hasten that process; having prompted a good many intellectuals and academics to 'seriously engage with the question of what happened on 9/11 and why' it may ignite a bushfire that will rage through the currently accepted analysis regarding 9/11. This documentary may be the kind of catalyst for change that truly reflects the nature of our times.
A 21st Century Theatre of the Truly Absurd - 9/11
Four hundred years ago the interplay of The Catholic Church, the Rome Inquisition and Academic Institutions with their Holy Scripture and their dogma, and men such as Copernicus and Galileo who challenged it and were intimidated or persecuted for their views bears some striking parallels with our modern-day equivalent of this theatre of the truly absurd in regard to what may or may not be said about 9/11.
David Ray Griffin perhaps deserves the role of Copernicus, publishing a theory of Heliocentrism and giving offence to those who consider themselves the centre of the universe. Today, the Report of the 9-11 Commission takes on the aura of Holy Scripture and is savagely defended by the Mainstream Media in the service of dark and shadowy powers that lie behind it, the modern equivalent of a Rome Inquisition with its power to end the careers or perhaps the lives of many a Galileo, without the fanfare of public exhibition.
The action is well under way and the new dogma of the official conspiracy theory is already fatally flawed. The wheel of history turned slowly in time of Copernicus and it was almost a hundred years before Galileo Galilei was summoned before the Inquisition of Rome for his scientifically argued defence of Copernicus' theory in Dialogue Concerning the Two Chief World Systems. To quote from Wikipedia:
"Galileo was found 'vehemently suspect of heresy', namely of having held the opinions that the Sun lies motionless at the centre of the universe, that the Earth is not at its centre and moves, and that one may hold and defend an opinion as probable after it has been declared contrary to Holy Scripture".

Galileo's book remained on the Catholic Church's Index of Prohibited books from 1633 after his trial until 1835, an affirmation of how slowly the wheel of history turned in times past. Clearly, the Roman Catholic Church eventually found it impossible to maintain the Geocentric dogma, which at last would rank with the "flat earth theory" as an object of widespread ridicule among the informed, intellectual elite, even though, in Galileo's time there was initially a plentiful array of supposedly educated, intelligent thinkers who could eagerly embrace and defend it, presumably despite having read the facts as presented in the writings of Copernicus and Galileo. Or perhaps they obediently ignored it.
Times have changed but the basic principles remain the same, only the wheel turns faster.
As in Galileo's time the Holy Scripture and academic dogma concerning 9/11 has long been known to be flawed but none dare speak of it, at least not in the cloisters or in the halls of science. All who fear the wrath of the Inquisition or merely seek favour with the divinely anointed powers take their lines from the hymn book of the Church, ignoring the evidence. The accepted wisdom stands protected by widespread ignorance and reflexive deference to dogma; sustained and enforced by a corrupt media and the insidious, dark forces it serves, a glimpse of which we see in Zuberi's documentary.
But then as now, the worldview of the guardians of dogma and their masters is founded on the false belief that the universities and all their galaxies of human understanding revolve around them and their interests.
The daylight is dawning rapidly, particularly among the intellectual and professional classes; over 2000 Architects and Engineers have signed up to the need for a new, independent investigation into the events of 9/11. Airline pilots, fire officers, scientists, demolition experts, academics, military and intelligence professionals informed in the relevant fields and artists and entertainment professionals are coming forward and speaking out. A reaction is coming and Adnan Zuberi's documentary may serve as a catalyst to hasten the daylight.
In the time of Galileo religious and academic dogma, the resistance of The Catholic Church and accusations of heresy were impediments to the professional inquiry undertaken by him and others; the cost to humanity was enormous. The Inquisition banned publication of Galileo's work - present and future - for over 200 years (although important works were published out of the reach of Rome). Nevertheless, the exceptional mind of Galileo provided the foundational insights for the work of Newtonian Physics and Materials Science and made major contributions to Mathematics, Astronomy and the overall Scientific Revolution.
These same themes prevail today. The report of The 9/11 Commission or the NIST report on Building Seven stand as if divine gospel, protected by institutional resistance to any formal critique, which has created a deafening silence and the derogatory epithet of "Conspiracy Theorist" has been dispensed so emphatically that, like Lady Macbeth, they have protested too loud. The cost to the world is incalculable; violence, destruction, injury and death in an endless war against shadows and fomented hostilities, imagined and real and a social order accepted based on failures of the original 9/11 Commission and NIST analysis.
Zuberi’s Documentary examines these themes in the context of Academia; exploring the influence of these reports, the resistance that exists to inquiry into 9/11 in universities and the power of the derogatory epithet. Perhaps, with appropriate reflection among the academic community upon how potently these themes apply today in relation to 9/11, themes that belong more properly to the middle ages, the intellectual discourse on 9/11 will change. The documentary is an open window in this direction.
The Significance of Zuberi's Documentary
The first level of profound importance of Zuberi's Documentary lies with the core subject itself, 9/11. To its great credit the film contains an eloquent statement of this in the interview with Professor Richard B. Lee of Toronto University who said:
"The real facts behind 9/11 are the linchpin of the 21st Century because the entire narrative [underlying the War of Terror] has been built on the premise that there are implacable enemies of the United States and of the West who will stop at nothing to do heinous crimes and so that will justify erosion of civil liberties, unlimited allocation for defence spending, it will justify security restrictions,... all justified in terms of this pivotal event".
So if I have criticism of Zuberi's Documentary it was that this interview was presented near the end, almost as footnote, rather than, as I personally believe where it belonged, at or near the very beginning as a preface to the discussion.
The second level of equally profound importance of Zuberi's Documentary lies in its direct exhortation to academics to critically reflect on what is a conspicuous failure, across all disciplines of academia to critically examine the official version of events of 9/11.
So it is perhaps a second deficiency that the documentary might further have consolidated its theme by giving some emphasis to the responsibility that academics have to the wider community. Indeed, a golden opportunity was missed in the attention given to Chomsky, who has become conspicuously self-contradictory in his dismissal of the 9/11 issue as a "conspiracy theory" with the assertion that it distracts from more important issues and his thoroughly outrageous rhetorical question to the effect of "Who cares who did 9/11?". For it was Chomsky himself who, more than 40 years ago, wrote at length on the Responsibility of Intellectuals "to speak the truth and to expose lies" including the most powerful and intensely relevant comment that "It is of no particular interest that one man is quite happy to lie in behalf of a cause which he knows to be unjust; but it is significant that such events provoke so little response in the intellectual community".
The particular quality of Zuberi's Documentary however, lies in the fact that it is an academic work intended for an academic audience, which appropriately and effectively addresses important academic issues. Its great strength in this regard is that the analysis is undertaken by reference to experienced academics and is, so it seems to me, well structured and scholarly in its approach. It deals with its subject in a manner that academics should relate to.
The work is a series of interviews with academics experienced in the relevant fields who have searched, read and can be relied upon to report the state of the literature in a diversity of relevant disciplines. This in itself makes Zuberi's Documentary a valuable contribution to the struggle for truth in relation to 9/11.
The 9/11 Taboo and its Dimensions
Zuberi poses the key question, "Is there a Taboo on discussing the facts behind 9/11?" and answers it with a resounding "yes", not just as a matter of opinion, of course, but with an abundance of evidence.
From within hours of the attacks of 9/11, what became the official explanation began to develop in the media, was asserted by the administration and later endorsed by the 9/11 Commission and has since been reinforced by government and media. Yet despite substantial gaps in this highly implausible account of this "deep event", significant errors, distortions and omissions in the 9/11 Commission Report, the "watershed" nature of it as a basis for the "Wars of Terror" and polls indicating a high degree of public scepticism as to its authenticity and validity, it has been maintained by universities in their curriculum and publications with very little critical examination.
Academics interviewed express their concern that in the disciplines of Humanities, Cultural Studies and History, all of which deal with the subject of 9/11 the official account is embraced as an assumed premise with negligible critical assessment while 9/11 scepticism is treated briefly and dismissively.
Many aspects of the 9/11 commission itself, including the government's resistance to it and acquiescence under duress, the appointment of Philip Zelakov as Head of the commission with multiple conflicts of interest and a clear breach of the commission's charter, the non-existence of an adversarial analysis in a monologue bereft of advocacy for those accused, the implications of a falsified "confession video" and the degree to which the evidence was based on testimony extracted by torture obtained without reference to the sources or their interrogators are obvious matters of interest to the Humanities and Social Sciences, which have been studiously and conspicuously ignored by academics.
The issue of False Flag attacks including the infamous Northwoods document and the Plan for the New American Century (PNAC) document and the domestic source of the Anthrax attacks that coincided with 9/11 have been largely unexamined by Universities. Given the General Wesley Clarke testimony that Pentagon plans to attack Seven countries in Five years were already in place before 9/11 as early as 1991, this is neglect so startling that it suggests as Graeme McQueen states in one of the interviews that "The Universities are sleeping".
A single and substantial peer-reviewed article based on privileged access to raw data and published in a respected business journal concluded there was 99% probability that Insider Trading of United and American airlines occurred in the week prior to 9/11 implying fore-knowledge of the impending attacks. Yet this paper, in contrast to other papers of its type, has attracted no discussion or follow-up papers.
Again, academics in the disciplines of Social Sciences and Business Studies interviewed by Zuberi deplored the lack of academic attention to these matters. The 30 books written by David Ray Griffin on the subject of 9/11, which have been endorsed by some notable scholars, commended by former CIA officers and are highly regarded for their rigour and scholarly analysis have met with silence from the general academic community.
Of particular significance is the absence of rigorous analysis by the disciplines of Civil Engineering and Materials and Physical Sciences where the tools and methods of scientific analysis offer opportunities for much more systematic and conclusive approaches to investigation. A high school physics teacher corrected NIST on the question of free-fall during the collapse of WTC Building Seven in a report delayed more than a year after the 9/11 Commission report, which itself almost entirely ignored the subject; a major event that occurred on 9/11 and yet remained largely absent from public awareness. A minority of researchers are reporting substantial flaws in the theoretical models used to explain the collapse of WTC buildings 1, 2 and 7 on 9/11, yet there is an apparent broad lack of interest in the subject. Academics interviewed by Zuberi suggest there is "a kind of understanding" in the field that challenging the official explanation will result in diminished credibility.
Exposed in Zuberi's Documentary, is the dearth of critical analysis of the official story of 9/11 undertaken by the various, relevant disciplines, which of itself stands as a substantial testimony to the existence of a taboo on academic critical analysis of the official account of 9/11. It's particularly discomfiting when considered in light of the role of universities, again aptly stated by Professor Richard B. Lee "The task of Universities and University Professors has to be relentlessly questioning that story and any other story that doesn't stand the smell test.". In every respect the official account of 9/11 fails the "smell test". Zuberi's appeal to the Academic Community to self-examine in the light of this confronting reality is timely and compelling.
Zuberi’s Documentary provides clear, testimonial evidence of persecution of academics who question the veracity of the official explanation of 9/11.The media vilification of Professor John McMurtry as the first academic to speak out publicly was extreme, colleagues reported him to the CIA and FBI and his university was flooded with emails from academics demanding his dismissal. The example of William Woodward is also mentioned; a Professor of Psychology at New Hampshire University who was exposed to political attack and his university to threats of funding cuts over his expressed views regarding 9/11 . As noted by Professor Walter Pitman of Ryerson University "The reaction is so overblown that you realise there must be something wrong here". The fact is also noted that these attacks serve as intimidation to others contemplating public criticism of the official account.
The documentary also examines other more indirect ways that prohibition of the subject is applied such as the "Spiral of Silence" in which media manipulation of public perception exploits the basic psychology that people feel less comfortable to express a view for which they perceive there is little public support (anyone feeling this sense of isolation needs only to visit Patriots Question 9/11 at http://patriotsquestion911.com/ to see that it's illusory ). David MacGregor of Western University refers also to the barrier of American exceptionalism creating the context in which "A critique of 9/11 immediately leads to internal corruption in the US government, which is unacceptable to Americans.".
In Galileo's time the Catholic Church and academic institutions were centres of power and their holy scripture, dogma and the Rome Inquisition were overt instruments of enforcement. In modern times the situation is more complex. The persecution of academics described here, while conspicuous at the point of application through the media, university boards or the university's sources of funding, is sometimes applied in other ways that are invisible and is always obscure in respect to its root source. This is a circumstance that may be the cause and, quite rationally, the source of many "conspiracy theories".
Although the documentary arguably benefits by confining itself in scope, it may well have dealt more fully with its subject by examining this aspect in more depth. However, understated as it is, the evidence resonates with what is now widespread familiarity with the degree of repression of 9/11 scepticism. The mainstream media is becoming conspicuously entrenched in a siege against its audience due to growing and assertive public awareness.

So resolute is the wall of resistance to engagement with the subject that the reason for this resistance is itself becoming a worthy subject. However, the general public opinion is more easily fobbed off than formal, scholarly analysis.
The issue of 9/11 is clearly a major division of public opinion. People not persuaded by the official conclusions are ill-served by reluctant, inadequate commission of inquiry conducted by the friends of those who resisted it and demonstrably flawed in its conclusions, and they are outrageously affronted by a steadfast resistance to examination of conflicting evidence and alternative opinion in the media; they deserve the satisfaction of a proper examination of 9/11 by the academic community free of dogmatic medieval proscriptions.
The Zuberi Documentary and the 9/11 Truth Trajectory
In Galileo's time, just as is the case today, the monopoly of power over information is porous. The church ban on publication of Galileo's work could not be universally enforced. The knowledge acquired and theories developed by Galileo and Copernicus influenced other philosophers such as Johannes Kepler and became the foundation of Newtonian Physics and the Law of Universal Gravitation, which are powerful tools for discerning a true understanding of our contemporary reality. Copernicus, Galileo, Kepler and Newton were great minds whose motivation was to apply their life's energy and work to matters of substance and for that they sought truth and reality. They were not the chaff who don the robes of eminence and strut about uncritically mouthing precepts with an air of authority. All of them sought and further developed the shared understanding of the intrinsic truth of the world. They were part of a Scientific Revolution that was essentially a search for truth.
Today the search for truth continues and a new revolution is under way, undertaken by people who, if not all intellectual giants like Galileo et al, are nevertheless motivated to live their lives around matters of substance and they too are concerned with truth and reality. The Zuberi Documentary is both a part and a symptom of that revolution, a catalyst that entreats academics to discern truth and reality; its influence will accelerate the pace of change.

In a recent article Paul Craig Roberts wrote:
“The neoconservatives who advocate America’s hegemony over the world called for 'a new Pearl Harbor' that would allow them to launch wars of conquest ... No evidence exists that supports the government’s 9/11 story ... On this 12th anniversary of a false-flag event, it is unnecessary for me to report the voluminous evidence that conclusively proves that the official story is a lie. You can read it for yourself. It is available online. You can read what the architects and engineers (for 9/11 truth) have to say. You can read the scientists’ reports. You can hear from the first responders who were in the WTC towers. You can read the pilots who say that the manoeuvres associated with the airliner that allegedly hit the Pentagon are beyond their skills and most certainly were not performed by inexperienced pilots. You can read David Griffin’s many books. You can watch the film produced by Richard Gage and Architects & Engineers for 9/11 truth. You can read the 9/11 Toronto Report, International Hearings on 9/11.”. His words are a hilltop view of the fragility of the 9/11 story in an article that urges the American people to wake up to the obvious. It stands erect like a wind-sock indicating the strength and direction of the fertile winds of change regarding 9/11.
In the time of Copernicus and Galileo the core, substantial facts supporting the Heliocentric theory lay in careful analysis of charts of the movements of planets, stars and sun-spots and other observations and calculations of astronomers. These were facts accessible only to educated people. The core, irrefutable facts of 9/11 are, I believe, free-fall collapse and the presence of nano-thermite. The fact and implications of free-fall should be readily accessible to anyone with an understanding of high-school Physics. For people who have not had direct experience in studies of science and its methods the fact of presence of nano-thermite may be less clear.
As a graduate in science I understand scientific method and I have read the paper published by Niels Harrit et al. I fully understand and agree with what Niels Harrit meant when he said "You cannot fudge this kind of science. We have found it. Unreacted thermite!". Their work is the kind of methodical, multi-strand analysis of chemical composition and behaviour and micro- and macroscopic, physical structure of materials by which, given the reference data, science can take a hand-full of a mixture of sand and sugar and ascertain from which beach came the sand and which refinery the sugar. This is not frontier research requiring cycles of speculation, hypothesis and experiment, it's applied science, the almost mundane application of existing knowledge, tools, techniques and methods, something that scientists do as a matter of everyday routine.
It's perhaps a profound irony that it is the work of Galileo, his contributions to understanding of gravity and kinematics as a foundation to Newtonian Physics, is itself the very science that provides us part of the irrefutable proof that 9/11 was an inside job. The science is in, the outcome is inevitable.
There is another circumstantial irony in that perhaps one of the most credible, academic critics of 9/11 Truth is Noam Chomsky who nevertheless does so with fragile and unbecoming reasoning that "despite little evidence the initial conclusion is presumably correct" and the subjective and flawed premise that internal government involvement would have been impossible to conceal, has written at length on those very responsibilities of intellectuals, which he seems, in the case of 9/11, to have neglected. As Noam Chomsky himself said "With respect to the responsibility of intellectuals, there are still other, equally disturbing questions. Intellectuals are in a position to expose the lies of governments, to analyze actions according to their causes and motives and often hidden intentions. In the Western world, at least, they have the power that comes from political liberty, from access to information and freedom of expression. For a privileged minority, Western democracy provides the leisure, the facilities, and the training to seek the truth lying hidden behind the veil of distortion and misrepresentation, ideology and class interest, through which the events of current history are presented to us. The responsibilities of intellectuals, then, are much deeper than what Macdonald calls the "responsibility of people," given the unique privileges that intellectuals enjoy." (Responsibility of Intellectuals, Noam Chomsky). Yet Chomsky chooses to ignore the abundance of scientific and testimonial evidence that demolishes the "initial conclusion" and outrageously and unprofessionally dismisses his contradictors as “conspiracy theorists”.
Today the pace of change is dramatic and the deceit-driven ‘hopey-changey' world of empire will hastily follow the path to stagnation and decadence in the mire of its own illusions, as other empires, powerful institutions and their dogmas have done, its adherents, degraded by the indulgence of power and clinging to worthless paper fortunes and impotent, destructive power long after the world has moved on.
The stranglehold that violent, destructive, greed-driven psychopaths currently have over the forces that shape human destiny is leading us recklessly towards an abyss that is becoming increasingly evident to truth-driven inquiry; the processes of deceit by profit-driven pseudo-science are increasingly exposed. A crisis is coming as we meet the limits of resources, environmental tolerance, financial and economic fraud, destructive violence and injustice. Honest, intellectual inquiry that has courage to speak truth to, or in defiance of power has a critical role to play in charting our course through that crisis if it is to be a course of non-violence and reason avoiding catastrophe. The need for a critical self-examination by academia, the best of human intelligence, mindful of its responsibilities to wider humanity was never more urgent and important. Zuberi's Documentary, being apt and timely to that purpose, dealing with 9/11 as the linchpin of key developments in that crisis and speaking the language of academics has all the qualities that make is essential viewing for academics. I hope it finds the acclaim that it deserves because it clearly has the potential to influence the 9/11 truth trajectory, and hence, perhaps also, the course of humanity through the looming crisis for the better.
